Over 30,000 cases of child abuse were reported in Orange County last year. Recent articles in the Los Angeles Times and the Orange County Register indicate that the number of shelters available to victims of child abuse does not even begin to meet the need. There is a continual waiting list of people attempting to gain admission into The Eli Home.
While in the shelter home, children and their mothers receive counseling and courses geared to strengthen their bodies and spirits-- to begin the process of healing the wounds caused by long term abuse and/or neglect. The Eli Home program helps to heal the scars of abuse on three levels: physical, emotional, and educational.
Social services, private agencies, churches, hospitals and law enforcement most often refer children and mothers who come to The Eli Home. The emergency shelter program is open to families of any religion, race, and economic situation. Eli works with mother and child to enable transition from an unhealthy living environment to a loving and healthy family unit.
