
Systematic Training for Effective Parenting works toward the prevention of child abuse and neglect:
- First STEP: emergency shelter for mothers and their abused children, professional counseling and classes in positive parenting methods and skills.
- Second STEP: Shelter for up to twelve months, re-introducing the mother to the workplace, child care and continued counseling for the children and mother.
- Shelter in 24 hour supervised home
- Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP)
- Social skills, self-esteem, boundaries, respect for others
- Healthy child-parent interaction skills
- Understanding and dealing with feelings; anger management
- Vocational imaging (interviewing skills, job training)
- Individual and group counseling
- Extended services, e.g., year round and extra holiday assistance
- Referral of families to needed services and resources
- Second-Step Program
