Systematic Training for Effective Parenting works toward the prevention of child abuse and neglect:
  • First STEP: emergency shelter for mothers and their abused children, professional counseling and classes in positive parenting methods and skills.
  • Second STEP: Shelter for up to twelve months, re-introducing the mother to the workplace, child care and continued counseling for the children and mother.
  • Shelter in 24 hour supervised home
  • Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP)
  • Social skills, self-esteem, boundaries, respect for others
  • Healthy child-parent interaction skills
  • Understanding and dealing with feelings; anger management
  • Vocational imaging (interviewing skills, job training)
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Extended services, e.g., year round and extra holiday assistance
  • Referral of families to needed services and resources
  • Second-Step Program
